To the ward "Pace", along ancient the consular Pompea (coast-line that leads Pelòro head ) rises the Church of Saint Virgin Mary of the Cove. Intentional from Emanuele Filiberto it was constructed on plan of Simone Gulli in 1622. The Church is introduced to circular plant with entrance hall to arches late-rinascimentale surpassed from one great cupola. Completely destroyed from the earthquake of 1908 it was rebuilt in 1924 on plan of the architect I guide Viola maintaining the characteristics of the original structure The name of the church seems to refer to the existence on the place of a natural cove and since ancient age venerated the image of the called Madonna exactly Madonna of the Cove. |
