The
construction of the Mount of Piety going back to
the XVIII century, was planned from the messinese architect Natale
Masuccio. Today, of this work of extraordinary beauty, us it remains the
facade with the portal of entry surmounted from a wide balcony
with consoles of baroque and flanked style from windows with eardrum
alternated from niches.
From the portal it is approached, through an entrance hall with ceiling to
time, in an immense courtyard on the background of which wonderful
perron constructed in 1741 is one on plan of architects Campolo and
Basile. This perron leads on parvis of the Church of Saint Maria of the Mercy going back also it to
the XVIII century and of which it does not
remain, unfortunately, than the facade.
On
the first shelf of the perron the Statue of
the
Abundance is found operates of Ignazio Buceti on design of the
Campolo. From some years the monument is object of a radical restoration
to the aim to safeguard from the degradation this splendid testimony of
the ancient city architecture of Messina. |
