The Church of Saint Tommaso, going back at the beginning of XVI the century, was constructed beside the Palace of the Motta baron. The conservatory of the Vergini Riparate was moved in that palace and used the Church like nail head from 1585 to 1607.

 

 

In 1663 architect Guarino Guarini it realized a great new convent and in the chiostro inner it remained confined the Church of Saint Tommaso that was not touched.

In the 1866 convent it was transformed in a school, the garden with the chiostro was sold to private and in chiesetta insediò a fornaio that of it it took advantage of the cupola in order to cook the bread.

The Church is to rectangular plant with four doors to sides; on the main door there is a rosone and over of it a registration in Latin, dated 1530, it decorates the architrave. The lateral doors are decorated up from an arc of mattoni and six embrasures that concur an ulterior light with the inside. One small apse forms the posterior part of the Church. The cupola, put off center, resting on a square plan that is risen from the roof, introduces four small rectangular windows.

Patient must to the work and incessant of the messinese archaeologist Giacomo Scibona the discovery, made of recent, how much the construction and, therefore, the history of this extraordinary Church were front to XVI the century. After studies and diggings around to the perimeter of the church it has been able to ascertain that, in effects, the church that today we see it is not other that the fruit of rimaneggiamenti of a going back more ancient architectonic complex to the Xii-xiii late century of age bizantina and normanna. Also one has assessed that front to the 1530 church it had a spiovente roof with a wider portale and frescoes policromi to the inside of the absidale zone.
